Over Marsicovetere
Marsicovetere has 5,000 inhabitants. It has also mobilised over €900,000 for social services in five years.
The ecosystem that investment has built is genuinely integrated. Persons with disabilities move through a city designed to include them - accessible urban spaces, inclusive sport, and a dedicated Smile Centre for adults. Older persons receive home care, telemedicine and seasonal wellbeing programmes that keep them connected to community life. Inclusive summer centres welcome over 220 children and young people each year. Migrants and refugees access Italian and sign language courses, as well as cultural programmes and digital facilitation services that ease their path into local life.
What gives this work its sustainability is the governance model that holds it together. Permanent thematic working groups bring schools, associations and community actors into the process of shaping initiatives - not as a consultative gesture, but as a structural feature of how decisions are taken. In Marsicovetere, inclusion is embedded in formal planning that extends beyond any individual political cycle. A small municipality, with a long-term vision.
