Over Cabildo de Lanzarote
On an island where tourism dominates the economy, and seasonal work can lead to cycles of precarity, Lanzarote has built something different: an integrated employment ecosystem that meets people where they are. This approach reflects a long-term commitment to inclusive and resilient economic participation. Young graduates with degrees but no professional experience gain their first foothold through paid traineeships within the Cabildo itself. For those over 45, women and people from communities in situations of marginality, a Training and Employment Alternance Programme combines a real employment contract with certified qualifications - offering not just a job, but a professional identity. And in a move that ties social inclusion to the island’s environmental vocation, a green jobs programme puts people with limited formal qualifications and persons with disabilities to work caring for Lanzarote’s landscape and urban spaces - 120 participants and €1.6 million invested in 2025 alone, generating both employment and lasting improvements to the island.
