Biography
Tiaan Westenberg is a South Africa born, Cyprus raised, Dutch lecturer in European Studies at the Hague University of Applied Sciences in the Hague, the Netherlands. Since completing his MSc in Political Science: Nationalism, Ethnic Conflict and Development from Leiden University in which he examined Transnational LGBT Identity in his thesis, Tiaan has been teaching about (gender and queer) politics at European Studies. His courses include Gender and Sexuality in Europe, for which he (with his two co-lecturers) won both the Jury and Public 2024 THUAS Olive Award for Inclusive Education; this course examines the past and current situation of gender and queer inclusion in a variety of areas from the home, to work, to media and many more. In addition, he co-wrote and teaches the course Diversity in the EU in which students simulate the Capitals of Diversity and Inclusion application by relying on the EU’s strategic frameworks for Gender Equality, Roma Inclusion, Disability Inclusion, Anti-Racism and LGBTQ+ Equality.
